Weight loss is essential when a person is immensely overweight or obese and there are certain specific methods by means of which it is possible for one to realize whether or not he is obese. This process is known by calculating the body mass index, BMI which is a percentage reached by calculating the ratios of the height of a person and his corresponding weight. According to medical practitioners, a BMI of over 30 determines that a person is overweight while if it stretches beyond 40, then a person is said to be morbidly obese that is to say that he is at a greater risk of succumbing to the fatal blows of obesity than most of his overweight counterparts. It must be noted that diets and physical exercises have worked wonders in aiding a person to lose his excess body weight but here it must be borne in mind that the body cannot adjust to radical changes in terms of diet patterns and physical activity and therefore it is always advisable that such diets be incorporated in one’s daily routine which does not promote drastic alterations in diet patterns but rather introduces them slowly so that the body can get accustomed to it in course of time.

In the contemporary world, most individuals are extremely conscious regarding their external appearance and since a fraction of their daily food consumption is based on junk food items served with aplomb in fast food joints, exercising is a regular feature in the lives of many despite severe time constraints. Therefore, in cases when putting on weight is apparent after indulging in a certain degree of exercising, it is possible to ensure greater weight loss by increasing the rate of physical activity and this can be done without asking for any serious alterations in the diet pattern. For this purpose there are various steps that one can undertake. It is possible to indulge in different kinds of sports like cycling, tennis, swimming, aerobics and other forms and it should always be remembered that every bit of exercising that is done, weight loss is guaranteed. In fact short walks of about 15 to 20 minutes duration are also beneficial in recording considerable weight loss if practiced for a major part of the week. For increased physical activity it is always better that one conceives of a daily exercising routine so that they are be able to maintain a regular check on their rate of weight loss.

The key to weight loss is a combination of healthy nutrition and exercise.  This sounds like a cliche, but people are simply not eating whole foods and getting the exercise they need.
